CUBOmini – 100G ODD

Making 100G/40G applications simple and fast to deploy

The 100G Optical multi-purpose Tool – 100G has never been easier

The CUBOmini 100G ODD is a new and much simpler approach to 100G optical services. Depending on the combination of QSF28 transceivers, the CUBOmini 100G ODD can be used for countless, different applications. The CUBOmini is auto-sensing and requires no configuration to have an up and running fiber link.

CUBOmini 100G ODD – BENEFITS

Small size

The CUBOmini 100G ODD is as small as it gets. With only 12cm x 16cm (w x d) and 1RU height, it can fit into the smallest possible space.

Plug and Play Operation

The CUBOmini 100G ODD is a true plug and play device. Merely plug in the transceivers, connect the fibers and the link is up and running.

Ultra Low Latency Operation

For applications where low latency is required, the CUBOmini is ideal. It has no unnecessary processing resulting in a negligible latency.

CUBOmini 100G ODD – KEY FEATURES

  • Stand-alone module with 2x QSFP28 MSA port
  • Support for MSA compliant transceiver
  • Each QSFP28 port supports up to 8W power consumption (MSA power class 8)

CUBOmini 100G ODD – APPLICATIONS

The flexibility of the CUBOmini 100G ODD is astounding considering the simplicity of the device. Below are some of the most popular applications in which the CUBOmini is used.

Demarcation

Service providers provide a working connection but generally only have access to the handover point at the customer site.
To have a clear separation between the fiber link of the service provider and the customer's fiber installation, the CUBOmini can be used as a demarcation device.

Media Converter

There is still a lot of 100G equipment in use that only supports SR4, i.e. multimode fiber. If longer distanced need to be bridged, singlemode fiber is inevitable. As the CUBOmini can be populated with any combination of QSFP28 transceivers, it is a simple solution to for example convert from multimode to singlemode.

Repeater

Sometimes the fiber length to be bridged is more than what can be covered by a transceiver type. The CUBOmini has a built in 3R CDR, meaning that it re-amplifies, re-shapes and re-times the signal. Because of the CUBOmini is ideally suited as a repeater to bridge that extra distance.

QSF28 Power Class Converter

MSA specifies power classes (PC) for QSFP28 transceivers, meaning how much electrical power the transceivers require. The majority of QSFP28 routers natively support up to 3.5W per port. However, nowadays there are the high-power transceivers such as ZR4 (80km) that require ~6.5W. As the CUBOmini supports up to 8W, it is a cost-effective power class converter.

CUBOmini – Management Multiplexer

The HUBER+SUHNER CUBO mini Management Mux is an addition to the CUBOmini 100G ODD module. The management of the CUBOmini 100G is separate from the 100G signal. The CUBOmini Management Mux combines the management channel with the 100G signal, avoiding having to add more fibers to connect the management when the CUBOmini 100G ODD is remotely located.

The CUBOmini Management Mux is mechanically designed to be attached to the CUBOmini 100G ODD making it a single unit.

CUBOmini & CUBO system – The perfect combination

The HUBER+SUHNER CUBOmini 100G ODD has a twin product in the CUBOsystem dual 100G transponder. Both are based on the exact same technology and are a perfect match for 100G hub/spoke setups.

The CUBOsystem dual 100G transponder has two completely independent services and takes up 1 slot in the CUBOsystem racks. This means that 9 transponders can be inserted into the 3RU rack (18x 100G services) and 2 into the 1RU rack (4x 100G services).

For a multiple 100G service point to point connection, two CUBOsystem racks would reside on each side of the link. However, especially for service providers, individual 100G services go from one central location to multiple customer sites. In this case, a CUBOsystem rack is used in the central office populated with the dual 100G transponder line card and the CUBOmini 100G ODD is used at the individual customer premises as a demarcation device.
